I am a graduate of Rising Sun Highschool - GO TIGERS! I received my Associate Degree from Cecil College - GO SEAHAWKS! I was a Terrapin at UMD, and earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UDC. I understand the value of a classroom, and why the teacher instructing and supervising the material matters. Being a teacher is a tough job, and I was glad to help deliver some much needed tax relief to these essential mentors to Maryland family's children. I voted for the money to follow the student when a charter school alternative is viable to being stuck in a school that does not work for a student.
Our society needs to get over the myth that every single student needs a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Working with blue-collar education advocates, I passed greater access to already-existing scholarship funds for tradespeople, truck drivers, and everyday working citizens. I voted to support Maryland students and their families every year, including through the BOOST program — but voted NO on Kirwan because of its astronomical spending increase and accountability problems - I believe in local & parental control over education.
