Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee today questioned how a non-citizen was able to register to vote and remain active on Maryland’s voter rolls year after he moved out of the state. In a letter to the Elections Administrator, Jared DeMarinis, members called for hearings on the matter to ensure confidence in Maryland’s elections before the 2026 election cycle. This inquiry follows a September 26 correspondence where House Republicans urged the Board of Elections to cooperate with inquiries from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the state’s voter rolls. In the letter, members reiterated their support for the federal inquiry and suggested that the Department of Justice may be better placed to investigate instances of non-citizens registering to vote in Maryland.
